Nitish Rana is an Indian cricketer who plays as a left-handed batting all-rounder for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was born on December 27, 1993 in Delhi[2][3].
Rana started his domestic cricket career representing Delhi in 2013. He developed into an effective batting all-rounder, adding off-spin bowling to his repertoire[2]. His consistent performances at the domestic level led to him being picked by Mumbai Indians in the IPL in 2015, though he did not get to play that season[4].
In 2016, Rana was retained by Mumbai Indians after being the most prolific six-hitter in the 2015-16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy[4]. IPL 2017 was his first proper season, where he played 13 games and scored 333 runs as Mumbai Indians won their third IPL title[4]. He was then released and picked up by KKR in the next auction in 2018[1][4].
At KKR, Rana has played many roles - opening the batting, batting in the middle order, bowling tough overs and picking up wickets[1]. He has been a vital part of KKR's middle-order over the years, making useful contributions and helping the team chase or put up high scores after top-order collapses[5].
In 2023, Rana had the opportunity to captain KKR when regular captain Shreyas Iyer was ruled out for the season[1]. He took on the leadership role and gained valuable experience that helped take his game to the next level[1].
Rana made his international debut for India in 2021, playing one ODI and three T20Is against Sri Lanka[2]. He has also represented India A and India U23 teams[3].
Off the field, Rana married his long-term girlfriend Saachi Marwah in 2019[2][3]. He is known to be a fan of Sachin Tendulkar, Ranveer Singh, Aishwarya Rai, and David Beckham[3].
